The Foundation board directs the state's largest grantmaking foundation dedicated exclusively to improving health in Minnesota and includes five community representatives. "Lori and Colleen demonstrate a strong commitment to healthy communities and will add their skills and knowledge to our board at this time of great opportunity and challenge for philanthropy and for all sectors that impact health," said Pat Geraghty, Foundation board chair, and president and CEO of Blue Cross. "Jan's depth and breadth of experience in the health field as well as her recognition of the importance of social, economic and environmental influences on health will be an enormous asset to our organization." Connors is responsible for all functions within Blue Cross's human resources department, including organizational development; learning and knowledge management; human resource consulting; diversity; compensation; benefits and human resources information systems; and also for facilities management, including the onsite child care center and the Blue2Green environmental efforts. Prior to joining Blue Cross, Connors served as senior vice president and global head of talent strategy at The Bank of New York Mellon. Connors' career also includes human resources leadership positions for Aetna Healthcare and Prudential Healthcare. Connors holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago and a law degree from Loyola University of Chicago School of Law. By addressing key social, economic and environmental factors that determine health -- including early childhood development, safe and affordable housing, environmental quality and social connectedness -- the Foundation's work extends beyond the traditional reach of the health care system to improve community health long-term and close the health gap that affects many Minnesotans. The Foundation has become the state's largest grantmaking foundation to exclusively dedicate its assets to improving health in Minnesota, awarding more than $25 million since it was established in 1986. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, with headquarters in the St. Paul suburb of Eagan, was chartered in 1933 as Minnesota's first health plan and continues to carry out its charter mission today: to promote a wider, more economical and timely availability of health services for the people of Minnesota. A nonprofit, taxable organization, Blue Cross is the largest health plan based in Minnesota, covering 2.9 million members in Minnesota and nationally through its health plans or plans administered by its affiliated companies. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, headquartered in Chicago.
